President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Istanbul University Ord. prof. Dr. He participated in the Blockchain Istanbul Program held at the Cemil Bilsel Conference Hall. Speaking here, President Erdoğan wished that the Blockchain Istanbul event, which was held at such a sensitive time, would be beneficial for the country and the technology sector.
President Erdoğan said that the popularity of blockchain technology in the public was ensured by the developments in the field of crypto money. Expressing that the decentralized registration and assurance opportunities provided by this technology, which has made great progress in the last 10 years, have the potential to radically change the current commercial system, President Erdoğan stated that alternative business methods, which are newly developed in this field and expressed by concepts that have not yet become accustomed, have begun to enter life more. “Digital assets are the fuel of technology, and blockchain is the vehicle of technology.” Stating that a new phase has been entered in the process with the securing of digital contents and intellectual property evaluations through blockchain technology, President Erdoğan continued: “If we put it in an analogy, digital assets are the fuel of technology, and blockchain is a means, a tool of technology. The main point and feature of this technology that makes its wide range of activities, from food supply chains to banks, from logistics operations to works of art, is its fast, efficient, secure and low-cost transaction capability. It is clear that we cannot ignore such a potential while making preparations for the Turkish Century. We want to be the country that uses this tool itself, rather than being the one putting fuel into the digital asset store. Instead of trying to take place in virtual universes opened by others, we seek to establish our own universe. Our goal is to reach a position that is not a consumer, but a designer, a producer, a leader, a follower, not a follower in this field as well.”

“It is our duty to make preparations that will keep Turkey ahead of the times in this field, just like other issues.” Expressing that they have appointed the National Electronics and Cryptology Research Institute under TÜBİTAK for the blockchain technology studies, foreseeing these days, President Erdoğan continued his words as follows: "Our country's first laboratory in this field. It was established there in 2016. A study on crypto money is being carried out within the body of our Central Bank. Our other ministries also follow this technology closely in their own areas of responsibility. We also closely monitor the activities of our private sector in the field of blockchain technology. In the coming period, we will continue to implement new projects that will contribute to our country in this field with our public institutions, universities and private sector.
Our aim is to ensure that all administrative, technical and strategic aspects of blockchain technology are discussed in a way that sheds light on our business sectors with this event. We cannot evaluate opportunities and threats without recognizing all aspects of the opportunity at our disposal, therefore we cannot take sound steps towards creating the necessary infrastructure and making arrangements. As the concept of the cyber world expands into cyberspace, it is our duty to make preparations that will keep Turkey ahead of the times in this field, as well as in other issues.” President Erdoğan said, “Instead of turning to crypto money gambling, which has no basis, to our youth, by taking part in the development of innovations such as blockchain technology, it is our duty to make it bigger and bigger.
